Syon 05/02/2012
5th Feb. FROZEN SOLID this morning CLOSED, with further frosts forecast we will certainly be frozen for a while.... Last week was again pretty quiet due to the cold conditions, but 130 fish taken (week ending 29th) including a 7lb 6oz for Elwyn Welch on a Montana. Still very clear water. Cats Whisker doing particularly well in the colder conditions, with most fish taking marabou goldhead patterns in green, black, white, orange on floating lines in top 2-3 feet of water, although some nymphs (buzzers, bloodworm) still taking fish. Finding the productive spots is more important than choice of fly - keep moving! The bridge is not in use so pick your side at the entrance. Syon regulars will be saddened to hear that founder Season Rod member A L POPE (Tony) passed away on 26th January aged 82. His almost legendary fishing and casting skills together with his determination to fish in any weather were well recognised by every regular angler over the last eighteen years that he enjoyed fishing here at Syon.

Weston 05/02/2012
5th Feb - 100% frozen solid this morning. No fishing here for a day or .....winter finally got here. Fishing on the upper two lakes with Millhouse now refilling after a draindown. 7lb 11oz rainbow for 12 year old Will Freeman (7th Jan), the fish taking a Black BFD. 5 fish for season rod Bob Walsh; 4 fish bags for W Everitt and Alan Avis. Main lake virtually full now after an 11 week refill, normally fills in a fortnight - reflection of a general lack of rain in the last year. 29 fish were landed in the 7 days to 29th Jan. Best patterns - Cats Whisker, Montana nymph, BFDs and Bloodworm. Overall on catch returns, waters at Albury produced a total of 107 fish in the 7 days 23rd-29th Jan.
